![]() I know you can get demos for iRacing and the Race 07+/GTR games, so you might start there.“We are a small independent group of people, members of Street Legal modding community and big fans of illegal street racing. ![]() IRacing, Live for Speed, and the RACE 07+/GTR series are all good sims to start with. You'll definitely need a wheel to play the sim racers. I have the Logitech Momo wheel, which is ok, but I would REALLY love having the 900 degrees turning. This is about the best wheel you can buy for the money. So now, all the arcade racers feel WAY too unrealistic, and I can't play the only simulation racing game I own.Īnyway, to answer your question OP, here is what I would recommend:ĭriving Force GT - sounds like you've done your research. Unfortunately, I also recently upgraded my computer to Windows 7, and discovered GTR-2 doesn't play nicely with it. I used to really enjoy the arcade-style racing games (GRID, DiRT, NFS, Test Drive Unlimited, etc), but really recently started playing GTR-2. I also couldn't figure out how to configure pedals with the steering wheel Anyway, that's a bit of a summary of some of my experienceĪctually, the sims are generally much LESS graphically intensive than the arcady racer games out there. It has some nice elements, but it eventually becomes frustrating with tricky handling, aggravating sound effects, etc. But if you're willing to put in the effort, it's a top notch sim.īurnout Paradise is a favorite of mine, and has far more to offer than its predecessors with a fast, fun open city, and is at least worth a try.Īlso, I can confirm that Juiced is a bit subpar. They're also are graphically intensive, so check your PC specs. The games from SimBin (GTR, GT Legends, et al) are hardcore sim racers, and essentially demand the use of a steering wheel. NFS: Shift on the other hand (the latest NFS game) is more of a sim racer (very much like GRID) and has gotten good reviews, and the demo I played was pretty good. In the Need For Speed ring, Underground to Carbon were about the only NFS games of recent times that were worthwhile and are definitely arcade games. There also happens to be a sequel coming this fall with even more. The entire island of Oahu, oodles of exotic cars, and a general high life atmosphere with lots to see and do, it's very cool. One of the ones I found to be a lot of fun was Test Drive Unlimited. Well, I've actually got a good bit of experience in this field I've tried a fair number of the games you've listed, some good, some. I've also been looking into picking up an affordable wheel/pedal set (Logitech Driving Force GT looks promising, 900 degree turning, sequential shifter, and force feedback for $85-ish, compared to $250 for the G25, which adds a traditional 6-speed, clutch pedal, and possibly a different force-feedback setup). I'm probably leaning toward one of the GTR games for now, since I've read good things about them. I've played older Burnout games, and while they're good for an adrenaline rush, they're almost too arcade-y for my tastes - fun multiplayer, but the single-player got old fast. So let's get some discussions going here.Īnyone have any experience with these? I've played most of the NFS series (still find myself going back to Underground 2, actually - Most Wanted had some fun chases, reminded me of the old-school Hot Pursuit games Carbon wasn't that great for the little while I played it). ![]() Cross Racing Championship (autox, sounds interesting) a smattering of rally-based games (Colin McRae, Dirt, Richard Burns, Sega Rally, xPand Rally) other NFS games (Undercover, ProStreet, Carbon, Most Wanted, Underground 1/2, etc.) Here's a list of recent PC racing games, to help jog your memories: (Please keep it to PC games only for this thread.) A good sim would be awesome, but I'm not opposed to a solid arcade racer either. So, I'm looking for some solid PC racing games. ![]() I've been playing Need for Speed - Shift lately, and I'm really disappointed with it - doesn't come close to Gran Turismo 4 (the other racing sim I've played at length loved it).
